Interview with the President of Villa Teresa

—As the president of Villa Teresa, how do you rate what your modest club has achieved by reaching the Uruguayan first division?

—A dream. It is something that we are experiencing and that we are still not fully aware of. I believe that we have not fallen completely yet. We are a humble club, from the neighborhood, that suddenly we are going to be fighting among giants.

—What is Villa like?

—We maintain the essence of amateur football. We were promoted three years ago to the B (the second division) and we have maintained the humility of our neighborhood until we also achieved promotion to the A (the first division). The board of directors is still made up of the same group of friends as always and that's how we want it to continue.

—Will you also continue to count on the neighborhood players and those who were already there?

—After the promotion, there was a meeting of the board of directors with the coach and it was decided to keep the core, complementing it with four or five players with experience in the first division. But yes, the idea is to continue just as we are.

—Without a stadium?

—Without a stadium. We only have a land that was bequeathed to us by a member when he died. Last year we shared a field with Cerro, but since we were promoted and coincided with them in the same category, we had to find another one. We will play in the Bella Vista's, which is currently not competing.

—Did anyone imagine that this story would be possible?

—Certainly not. We are the children of those who led the club and then no one thought this was possible. Right now, the club is young and dynamic, a source of pride for a working-class neighborhood.

—How does the neighborhood feel at these moments with their team?

—Imagine. It has always been very famous and beloved among us, with a very passionate and sometimes fierce fan base. Fortunately, we live in a very peaceful time, where neighbors can enjoy unique moments.

—I don't know if anything will ever equal that moment of promotion...

—It was a celebration for everyone, even those who are not big football fans supported us. The promotion made us forget the shortcomings we sometimes have.
