Note

After four days of competition at the Kazan World Championships, and still waiting for the debut of Miguel Ortiz-Cañavate, Bea Gómez and two members of the 4x200 freestyle relay (Víctor Manuel Martín and Albert Puig are the ones who still haven't debuted), the results of the Spanish delegation are below expectations. Out of the nine swimmers who have already jumped into the pool at the Kazan Arena and have participated in 11 events, only one of them has improved their personal best time, indicating that the majority of the team has not peaked in form for the big competition of the year.

The only exception was Marc Sánchez in the 800 freestyle, in which he achieved his personal best time (7:51.19). The rest of the swimmers who have already competed have not been able to improve their times, and only Melani Costa in the final of the 400 freestyle and Jessica Vall in the 100 breaststroke managed to beat their best times from 2015. There are still four days of competition and other events to mitigate this disappointment, although the Spanish results, this time without Mireia Belmonte, are well below expectations and cannot be masked by their medals. Only the annual mark has been bettered in 27% of the events, and only 9% have managed to beat their personal best times.

After four days of competition, the Spanish swimmers have participated in the following events with the following results:

  • 100m butterfly (women): Judit Ignacio (59.87). Her time this year was 59.08.
  • 400m freestyle (men): Miguel Durán (3:50.07). His time this year was 3:49.07.
  • 50m butterfly (men): Rafa Muñoz (23.36). His time this year was 23.24.
  • 400m freestyle (women): Melani Costa (4:06.50). Her time this year was 4:06.92.
  • 100m backstroke (women): Duane da Rocha (1:01.63). Her time this year was 1:00.58.
  • 100m backstroke (men): Juanmi Rando (54.81). His time this year was 54.51.
  • 100m breaststroke (women): Jessica Vall (1:07.13). Her time this year was 1:07.51.
