Vince McMahon is a big fan of American football. And although he founded the XFL (an independent American football league) without success a few years ago, the president of WWE is once again interested in entering the professional sports business.

This news was initially announced by writer Brad Shepard. While this week it was confirmed by pro wrestling podcaster Chris Harrington, who assured that Vince McMahon sold part of his shares in WWE to found a new sports company: Alpha Entertainment.

"On December 21, 2017, Vincent McMahon sold 3,340,000 Class A common shares of the Company (...) Mr. McMahon executed the sale, mainly to finance a separate entity from the Company, Alpha Entertainment LLC, which he established to explore investment opportunities," explains the document released by WWE.

According to Harrington, this sale of shares will provide Vince McMahon with about 100 million dollars in profit. Meanwhile, journalist Darren Rovell from ESPN revealed that Alpha Entertainment applied for five trademarks for "XFL" on December 16.

The main reason that led to the failure of the XFL were the numerous criticisms it received from fans of the NFL, the main American football league. This forced its cancellation after its first season in 2001. What will Mr. McMahon's plan be now?
