Today we published Cody Garbrandt's words about a future rematch with TJ Dillashaw, claiming that he is the better fighter.
"I'm a better fighter. He was able to take advantage of a hook, congratulations. But I'm still better and I'll prove it in the rematch. That fight was with myself. I just didn't push hard enough. I didn't do what I was supposed to do.
Since I was a child I wanted to be a world champion and this won't stop me. I won't die with dreams, I'll die with memories. I will come back and that title will be mine."
Now the champion speaks about this possibility, ruling out that the rematch will be immediate, something that seems unlikely anyway.
"I finished him in the second round. He doesn't deserve a rematch. He is new to this sport, he has to work again. I should have had the immediate rematch against Dominick Cruz after he won me by split decision. But I had to work for a year and a half, almost two years, to get it. So I think he will have to rebuild himself."
On the other hand, TJ Dillashaw has challenged flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson again for a possible title fight.
Also, next December the fight Dominick Cruz vs. Jimmie Rivera will surely determine the next bantamweight title contender.
The former champion spoke in early October about why he accepted this fight instead of waiting for an immediate title shot.
"It all comes down to the fact that I am not the king of the bantamweight division and the champion is not either. Sean Shelby [UFC matchmaker] is, and he makes the decisions about the fights. He told me that if I didn't fight Jimmie Rivera, he would fight Raphael Assuncao for a chance against the champion. So I would fight the loser of Garbrandt vs. Dillashaw. I have never chosen a fight in my entire career. I'm not here to complain. I'm here to fight. When I started I paid to fight. I enjoy fighting and my next fight will be for a title shot. I was told they couldn't guarantee me the fight against the champion, that was the fight they offered me. I told them okay, that would be the fight I would have. For some reason, UFC believes that makes more sense, who am I to contradict the biggest company in the world?"
