Miguel Cotto's Final Fight
The Super Welterweight World Champion Miguel Cotto (41-5, 33 KO) will have one last fight on December 2 at Madison Square Garden against American Sadam Ali (25-1, 14 KO). Cotto has previously stated that he will retire, but now he said that this time it's final and he will bid farewell to the ring.
"I have missed birthdays, graduations... everything. They won't come back, but I will enjoy each day to the fullest. And I will not miss another day in their lives. I know they are proud of me and they can't wait to have me with them every day."
He also said that even though it will be his last fight, he will not change his fighting style and assured that he will continue to give it his all, just like he always has.
"Throughout my career, I did my best in every opportunity I had, and I won't change anything. I'm leaving Puerto Rico to go to Los Angeles to train, and I will always give it my all."
Cotto said that his fight against Ricardo Torres on September 24 has been his favorite so far. It was the first professional fight in which the Puerto Rican visited the canvas. Cotto managed to get back up and defeated Torres by knockout in the seventh round.
"That fight turned Miguel Cotto into the boxer he is right now. In that fight, I learned that you have to go through difficult moments in life to achieve what you want."
After his fight against Ali, Cotto will continue in boxing as a promoter with his company Miguel Cotto Promotions and will be helping Puerto Ricans who suffered a lot after Hurricane Maria. For now, his priority is being a father and a husband.
A boxer who has brought great glory to Puerto Rico will soon say goodbye. He has had incredible fights and has left everything in the ring.
