This coming November, WWE will experience its own "WCW Month", when Vince McMahon brings back two of the most popular concepts from the defunct company: Starrcade and WarGames. This "tribute" has sparked a variety of opinions from Cody, son of one of the figures of that era and creator of both shows, Dusty Rhodes. In addition, other talent like Shane Douglas didn't hold back in expressing their disgust, considering that the Chairman of the wrestling giant has no legitimacy to do so.
The first event will take place on the 25th, and although it is not established as a PPV, it will be a big event for the SmackDown brand, subtly reminiscent of the first installment in 1983. Meanwhile, the second event, a week earlier, will be a full-fledged NXT special, including the traditional double ring attraction, which will be a real competition for WWE Survivor Series (2017) on the same weekend.
Yesterday, during the epilogue of the NXT episode, Andrade "Cien" Almas defeated Roderick Strong, and after several weeks of insistence from the Mexican and Zelina Vega, William Regal finally decided to respond to their requests. Thus, at TakeOver: WarGames, Drew McIntyre will defend the NXT Championship against Almas.
Regal argued that Almas has earned the opportunity after a good winning streak against No Way Jose, Johnny Gargano, and now Strong. The NXT General Manager also announced that next week the corresponding contract signing will take place for the match.
This will be Almas' first title opportunity, since his debut on June 8, 2016, at NXT TakeOver: The End, where he defeated Tye Dillinger. Despite his undeniable wrestling talent, the man formerly known as La Sombra in CMLL and NJPW has had to endure the lack of acceptance from the American audience; or rather, it should be said, the ignorance of a large part of the NXT fan base, so self-absorbed in their supposed knowledge of this discipline.
For now, the NXT TakeOver: WarGames card looks as follows:
Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas for the NXT Championship
Kairi Sane vs. Ember Moon vs. Peyton Royce vs. Nikki Cross, Fatal 4-Way for the NXT Women's Championship
Shawn Michaels vs. Johnny Gargano, Abdominal Competition
In addition, a classic WarGames match with three teams involved is expected, and most likely, an Aleister Black vs. The Velveteen Dream match.
