Tennis: Frenchman Benoit Paire wins first title in Bastad
Frenchman Benoit Paire won his first title on Sunday by defeating Spanish player Tommy Robredo 7-6 (7) and 6-3 in the final of the Bastad Tennis Tournament in Sweden.
The 62nd ranked French player celebrated his first ATP title after a battle on the Swedish clay that lasted for one hour and 33 minutes.
That's how long it took Benoit Paire to deny Tommy Robredo his thirteenth title and extend the Catalan's unfortunate streak, who had already lost the three finals played in 2014 - Umag (Croatia), Shenzhen (China) and Valencia (Spain).
Champion in 2006 and 2008 in Bastad, Robredo clashed with the solidity displayed by his opponent, who equalized their head-to-head record after the match held on Sunday.
The experience that the 33-year-old Spanish player has accumulated on clay, a surface on which he has 255 victories, was not enough to defeat Benoit Paire.
