Kelvin Gastelum couldn't defeat former middleweight champion Chris Weidman

Kelvin Gastelum was submitted with an arm triangle by 'All American' in the main event of UFC Long Island.

In the first round, Chris Weidman dominated the fight; however, at the end of the round, Kelvin Gastelum landed a left hook that sent Weidman to the floor. The Mexican continued with strikes but the bell saved the 'All American'.

The break served Weidman well, as in the second round he imposed his wrestling on his opponent. Although Gastelum waited for the perfect moment to counter, he never had the opportunity.

In the third and final round, the fighter of Mexican descent gave a tough battle to the former middleweight champion but was submitted with an arm triangle. At the end of the fight, Weidman called for a rematch against Luke Rockhold, who took the middleweight title from him at UFC 194.

The favorite is the so-called 'All American' because he is fighting at home. However, Gastelum already knows what it's like to defeat favorites. In the past, he has defeated Vitor Belfort, Johnny Hendricks, and Nate Marquardt.

On the other hand, Weidman will try to get back to the winning streak, something he hasn't achieved since losing the middleweight title to Luke Rockhold in 2015. The American comes with two consecutive losses to Yoel Romero and Gegard Mousasi.

Meanwhile, Dennis Bermudez and Darren Elkins will face each other in the co-main event. Additionally, Ecuadorian fighter Marlon Vera will also compete against Brian Kelleher in one of the preliminaries.
