Omar “Terremoto” Chávez challenges Antonio “Tornado de Tijuana” Margarito

The Mexican boxer Omar “Terremoto” Chávez (36-3-1, 24 KO) said he is looking for a fight against his compatriot Antonio “Tornado de Tijuana” Margarito (40-8, 27 KO) for the end of the year. However, not immediately, as he revealed he has plans to fight on July 29th.

"What comes next is another knockout. We will wait for Margarito to say 'yes' after this fight and I hope a champion in the 154-pound division gives me an opportunity for a title."

"Right now I have a date for July 29th, at least that's what they told me. What they haven't told me is the location or the opponent." It could be in Monterrey or in the United States.

"Honestly, I'm not going to go out and look for him, it has been mentioned to me. I think that if I beat him and I look good, they would give me an opportunity for a title. I would like to compete for the World Boxing Organization's title."

"Personally, I like Margarito, this is nothing personal. But this is a business and if the opportunity presents itself, we will take it. If not, there are other boxers and I won't be waiting for him."

Chávez's last fight was when he knocked out Ramón Álvarez in the second round in a rematch on April 29th.

On the other hand, Margarito defeated the same opponent on September 13th, 2016 but by split decision.

A fight between Chávez and Margarito would be a war between two Mexicans. The age difference would be a factor, as Chávez is 27 and Margarito is 39. Both have the same reach and almost the same height.

Another interesting fact is that Chávez was defeated by Álvarez and "Tornado" beat him. Another factor is activity, as Margarito has not fought for almost a year while "Terremoto" has only been two months.
