Villar still does not announce Quereda's departure
Despite the RFEF Board meeting this Monday being considered the moment to publicly announce what everyone takes for granted, that Quereda will imminently resign from his position as coach, the announcement has not been made.
Everything indicates that the decision has already been made. Ignacio Quereda will not be the coach in the next call-up for the national team in September, but Villar wants to set the timing, although he committed to making his departure public at the General Assembly this Tuesday. The Federation considers that they might be waiting for July 24, the date Quereda turns 65.
After returning from the World Cup in Canada, where the team was eliminated in the group stage, the 23 players wrote a statement asking for Quereda's departure, blaming him for the poor preparation and requesting a necessary change "to face new challenges". After the media uproar caused by the news, Villar, together with Vicente Temprado, met with the players just two weeks ago, in a meeting where, as the players confessed, Villar "empathized" with them and listened to their concerns.
