Keep reading. This Friday, April 28, 2023, will be a non-working day in Peru, as determined by Supreme Decree No. 151-2022-PCM, which was published on January 2 in the official newspaper El Peruano. This new non-working day was a decision made by the current government, with the aim of encouraging national tourism and providing a great opportunity for millions of Peruvians and foreigners to have a long weekend since May 1 is a national holiday.

Apart from these dates, Friday, June 30; Thursday, July 27; Monday, October 9; Thursday, December 7; and Tuesday, December 26, 2023, are also non-working days for public sector workers. In 2024, it will be on Tuesday, January 2.

What is celebrated on April 28?

On Friday, April 28, there is no holiday or celebration in the country, however, it was decided to make it a non-working day since May 1 is the 'Labor Day', that is, the long weekend in the country will be taken advantage of to enjoy with family on a trip or outing within the country.

However, for tax purposes, these days will be considered working days, taking into account that the hours not worked during these dates will be made up within the ten immediate days following, or at the opportunity established by the head of each public entity, according to their own needs.

It should be noted that after the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, the Central Government decided to promote a campaign to strengthen tourism at a national level. In that sense, it decreed several days in 2023 so that citizens can have the option to take advantage of them by traveling and discovering new places.

Who will have a day off on April 28?

Taking into account that Friday, April 28 is a non-working day and not a holiday, public sector workers will be able to rest. However, according to Andina, these hours not worked must be compensated during the next ten subsequent days.

Likewise, the employee must make up for those hours when the head of each public entity establishes it according to their needs.

Companies subject to private labor law that provide health, cleaning, sanitation, water, electricity, gas, drainage, fuel, communications, transportation, funerals, airports, security, surveillance, and related services will continue with their activities as usual.

What will happen to private sector workers?

In the case of private sector workers who want to take a rest on that day, voluntarily, they must coordinate with the responsible heads of their organization. Therefore, it will be the responsibility of the heads of public sector entities to take the necessary measures to guarantee the provision of those services that are essential for society during the non-working days.
