Archery Competition at the World Games in Birmingham Begins
The participation of the selected archers Andrea Maya Becerra Arizaga and Miguel Becerra Rivas in the compound archery category at the 2022 Birmingham World Games has begun, taking place at Avondale Park in Alabama, United States.
After shooting the 72 regulation arrows at a distance of 50 meters, the national archer finished in sixth place with a total of 708 points. The Pan American medalist in Lima 2019 ended in 19th place with a total of 683 points.
According to the competition schedule, Becerra Rivas will have a bye in the individual round and advance to the round of 16, where he will face the winner of the match between American archer Braden Gellenthien and New Zealand archer Riku Van Tonder.
Becerra Arizaga will face Dutch archer Jody Beckers in the first elimination round, with the goal of advancing to the medal matches which will take place on Saturday.
In the mixed team event, Mexico has reached the semifinals after defeating the Danish team of Tanja Gellenthien and Mathias Fullerton in the first elimination round. The match ended in a tie with 158 points and was decided by a tiebreaker arrow, which favored the Mexican team. They will now face the Netherlands in the next round.
The archery competition at the World Games brings together the best athletes from 35 countries and runs from July 8th to July 15th in the compound and field categories.
