After more than 2 years of health pandemic, the Peruvian State is still in charge of the task of immunizing the population against the coronavirus. Thus, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) recently released a reminder for the 4th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine aimed at people over 50 years old in the national territory.

According to the guidelines of the health organization, the vaccination card will be previously authorized for people over 50 years old, to verify that 5 months have passed since the inoculation of the 3rd dose for immunity.
Similarly, people can reinforce their immunity at any vaccination center authorized by the Minsa, and in this way, better face the third wave of the virus, which reaches a higher rate of contagion due to the delta and omicron variants of the coronavirus.
"The administration of a fourth dose was only allowed in people over 70, healthcare personnel, and immunosuppressed individuals; however, it was necessary to extend this age range to 2", said Minsa to the media.
According to information from the Unique National Health Information Repository (Reunis), more than 8 million citizens will be able to reinforce their immunity against SARS-CoV-2.
Requirement to receive the 4th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine
As explained by Minsa, it is essential that people over 50 who receive the 4th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine have waited 5 months since the third dose of immunity.
In line with the recommendations of the Committee of Experts on Immunizations, it is encouraged that the dose to be used in Peru is 0.25 ml. This initiative is also adopted by foreign entities such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
