The World Cup of said category was scheduled to take place in 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it had to be postponed to 2023.

A year after the start of the tournament, as planned by the highest governing body of world football, El Comercio was able to learn that the Government of Peru has not responded to the letters and reports from the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) requesting the guarantees for the realization of the World Cup in that category.

It is worth mentioning that the deadline set by FIFA to submit the documents, which are essential requirements to reaffirm the commitment and ensure that the football event takes place in Peru without any inconveniences, is this Friday, April 29th.

"The FIFA Council Bureau decided to cancel the 2021 edition of the U-17 World Cup that would be played in our country and postponed it to 2023. In addition, the council decided that Peru will continue to be the host of this international competition,"

the FPF reported in a statement released in late 2020.

In the FIFA announcement at that time, the postponement of the 2021 U-20 World Cup, which was hosted by Indonesia, was also announced. This tournament was also rescheduled for 2023.
