Confirmed. Uruguayan striker Christian Tabó has become the new forward for Cruz Azul, with whom he will debut next January in the Clausura 2022 Liga MX.

"To give it all for this shirt," wrote the Cruz Azul on their social media, featuring a photo of Christian Tabó arriving from Puebla.

Tabó, originally from Montevideo, is one of the highest-performing goal scorers in Mexico, despite playing for Puebla, a team without many recognized figures. In the recently concluded Apertura 2021, the South American scored five goals and was a decisive figure in the quarterfinals series against Leon.

In the Clausura, which will start next January, he will coincide with his compatriot Jonathan Rodríguez, the top scorer of 'La Máquina Cementera', as long as the player is not traded.

The possible pair of Uruguayans can increase the offensive capacity of Reynoso's team, which in the first half of the year intends to recover the title lost in the Apertura and be a protagonist in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Cruz Azul won the Clausura 2021 final against Santos Laguna and won its first title in over 23 years, but in the Apertura, they never found their best football; with last-minute defeats against León and Pumas, they lost the possibility of qualifying directly to the quarterfinals, and in the relegation round, they were eliminated by Monterrey.

The signing of Christian Tabó with the 'Azules' comes at a time of attacking player movements in the league, as Chilean midfielder Diego Valdés moved from Santos Laguna to América on Wednesday and Colombian Nicolás Benedetti moved on loan from América to Mazatlán.

In the coming days, new negotiations are expected for the championship, which will start on January 6. (EFE)
