COVID-19 Hits Real Madrid

Coronavirus is hitting Real Madrid. First, Thomas Heurtel and Pablo Laso, members of the basketball team, tested positive last Monday. Then, Marcelo and Luka Modric were confirmed cases in the football squad. Plus, a player from the women's subsidiary team and another from the youth team are also infected.

Therefore, facing the distressing scenario, the club acted quickly. Firstly, the squad led by Carlo Ancelotti and all the staff members they work directly with underwent rounds of antigen and PCR tests, as reported by the newspaper AS. The results are expected to be known throughout Thursday.

Precisely, the same source indicated that the football team had planned to hold a morning training session with the weekend clash against Cadiz in mind. However, the concern over new cases of COVID-19 has caused last-minute changes in the planning, and the practice was rescheduled for the afternoon in Spain.

Thus, Real Madrid is awaiting the results of the tests carried out in the early hours of Thursday to determine who will be able to participate in Thursday's activities. In any case, Modric and Marcelo are confirmed absences for the game this Sunday 19 (3:00 p.m., Peruvian time) at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Reviewing the positive cases of coronavirus in the current squad of 25 players, the Croatian midfielder and the Brazilian full-back join the list that has already been infected: Mariano Diaz, Toni Kroos, Eder Militao, Casemiro, Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Nacho Fernandez, Federico Valverde, Karim Benzema, Andriy Lunin, David Alaba, and Jesus Vallejo.

Meanwhile, Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal, Ferland Mendy, Lucas Vazquez, Dani Ceballos, Isco Alarcon, Eduardo Camavinga, Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo have not yet been reported as confirmed cases of COVID-19. In any case, they could have had the disease without experiencing any symptoms.

On the other hand, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, currently at PSG and Manchester United respectively, also had the coronavirus. Likewise, Zinedine Zidane contracted the virus and was replaced by his assistant David Bettoni. Finally, Florentino Perez, the president of the 'Casa Blanca', had the illness but recovered without complications.

Lockdown at Valdebebas

After learning about the positive cases in men's and women's football, as well as in basketball, the institution decided to restrict visits from third parties to the facilities to avoid an outbreak among more members of the different squads, as reported by the newspaper Marca. The club, which already has a protocol for working during the pandemic, will reinforce security to avoid further complications.
