"Financial situation is pressing us; I also remind you that Barcelona has a financial problem from years ago, from past administrations, and this complicates us even more in all the projects we had," Canario President Carlos Alejandro Alfaro Moreno said worried during an Instagram Live with Marcador, last Tuesday.
At a time when Ecuador is in the social distancing phase in the framework of the health emergency due to the coronavirus, with the aim of reactivating essential activities and therefore the country's economy, the board of Barcelona Sporting Club decided "by mutual agreement" starting this month to apply a salary reduction to all club employees.
In the chat with Marcador, the main man of the yellows anticipated the economic plans of the Board to cope with the paralysis of national competition since March 14.
"We think that together we will overcome this moment by each of us contributing our grain of sand," Alfaro Moreno began.
"Starting this month of May, we have initiated a reduction plan requested by the Board. Last week we had a four and a half hour virtual meeting in which we decided that we are going to apply a salary reduction to all Barcelona staff, by mutual agreement of course, with the intention of supporting the club and being able to plan and have a cushion for the next few months when we don't have football," he explained without specifying the percentage.
- Alfaro Moreno: I am one of those who think that without a vaccine for the coronavirus it will be difficult to avoid any kind of risk.
In that sense, the Barça director states that Barcelona was able to 'have a cushion', thanks to what was collected in cash prizes throughout the repechage phase of the Copa Libertadores de América ($5,024,897 for the three stages played, plus what they should receive for their 3 home matches in Group A). The Toreros reached the group stage after surpassing Progreso from Uruguay, Sporting Cristal from Peru, and Cerro Porteño from Paraguay, in that order.
"I don't like to specify who received what, it is our obligation to fulfill the club's employees and not boast about when one is up to date or not," Beto Alfaro Moreno replied when confirming that the workers and players of Barcelona were paid on time for the month of April.
However, in an interview with Ecuavisa, published over the weekend in the Estadio section, the yellow president detailed: "We started a series of talks, each in their area, about salary reductions, and those people who are not in line or do not accept this reduction, unfortunately we will have to meet to make another kind of decision."
