Peru Honors its Local Condition
Peru honored its local condition and achieved a spectacular day on the opening day of the Lima 2022 Pan American Judo Cup, held at the Videna. Last Wednesday, September 14th, the national delegation won six medals, three gold and three silver.
Judokas from Uruguay, Colombia, Mexico, the United States, and Peru kicked off the tournament in the cadet category. Peruvians Benjamin Galarreta (-81 kg), Luciana Julca (-57 kg), and Mateo Cóndor (-60 kg) took home the gold, while the silver medals were won by Iker Celis (-66 kg), Jorge Suárez (-81 kg), and Sebastián Benites (-90 kg).
The president of the National Sports Federation of Judo, Sensei María Martínez, expressed satisfaction at being able to organize an event like the Pan American Cup again. "Above all, being able to recover the competitions of our cadet athletes that we haven't been able to hold since 2016, due to the pandemic. It's good to see Luciana Julca and Mateo Cóndor win, who will be our flag bearers later on," she pointed out in statements collected by IPD.
