Roger Federer hardly had to change anything in his third match of the US Open. He also didn't like the insinuation that he intervenes to play at a time that favors him.

The Swiss star simply focused on executing his shots and not rushing. With so much experience on the circuit, Federer is not a man who falls victim to panic, especially after a couple of consecutive matches in which he lost the first set.

Resembling more the player who has won 20 Grand Slam titles, Federer carved out his first straight-sets victory at this US Open, putting on a display of dominance with his serve as he dispatched Daniel Evans 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 on Friday.

He only needed 80 minutes to seal his place in the Round of 16. But on Friday, he didn't even break a sweat against Evans, the world number 58, in a match in which he won 21 consecutive games with his serve. He hit a total of 48 winners, including 10 aces.

The match started at noon, being played under the sun at Arthur Ashe Stadium, and the five-time US Open champion was more rested than his opponent.

While Federer was able to play indoors on Wednesday on a rainy day, Evans had to wait until Thursday to shock Lucas Pouille, a match that ended at sunset.

Federer had to come from behind after losing the opening set in his first two matches against Sumit Nagal and Damir Dzumhur, something unheard of in his 19 appearances in New York. No one has become champion after such a start, so the third seed faces the odds in his attempt to extend his record of Grand Slam titles.

"What really matters to me is that I reached the third round after all, after two bad starts," Federer said, whose next opponent will be Belgian David Goffin, who eliminated Spanish player Pablo Carreño in his last match.
