Rally Dakar Returns to Peru
After five years of waiting, the Rally Dakar returns to Peru, which has been chosen as the first milestone of this important championship. The symbolic start took place at the Pentagonito, and then the initial stage of the route from Lima to Pisco began.
A Challenging Adventure
South America has been characterized by its high level of difficulty due to its complicated orography, and this year will be no exception. In Peru, participants will have to navigate through the arid dunes for five days, then face more than 3000 meters of altitude for five days in Bolivia, and finally endure five more days of intense heat in Argentina.
Peruvian Representative Shines
At the end of this first stage, our Peruvian representative, Nicolas Fuchs, finished in third place in the general car classification. The first and second place went to Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah and South African Bernhard Ten Brinke, respectively.
A Well-Equipped Expedition
Despite the harsh weather conditions presented by the desert landscape of Pisco, there were no shortages of portable bathrooms, helicopters, satellite equipment, and plenty of food for the nearly 4,000 team members participating in the 2018 Dakar edition.
