The Peruvian Government declared the Rally Dakar 2018 "of national interest" and confirmed an investment of 6 million dollars for its organization, which will be officially announced next Tuesday, confirmed PromPeru sources to Efe.
The budget provided by the Peruvian state for the competition is the total cost that includes the organization with all the security details and even the camps for the competitors along the route in the country, as detailed by a spokesperson from the state office in charge of tourism and trade promotion.
The Dakar Rally will celebrate its 40th anniversary in the 2018 edition, and the route that it will cover next January through Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina will be detailed by its director, Etienne Lavigne, in a press conference next Tuesday, along with Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Eduardo Ferreyros.
The minister advanced on Wednesday that the Peruvian investment was going to be 6 million dollars, the same amount that, as he said, "was invested in the last Rally Dakar held in 2013" in the country.
During the official presentation next Tuesday, the number of racers will be revealed, and Peruvian participants in the rally will exhibit their vehicles.
The Peruvian Council of Ministers approved on Wednesday a supreme decree declaring the Rally Dakar 2018 "of national interest" in order to "facilitate the logistical customs procedures for the entry of cars and the necessary teams for the coverage of this important event," explained Ferreyros.
In 2018, Peru will have a significant role in the Dakar, with six stages focused on a desert that the rally is starting to get to know and that "promises interesting surprises," as Lavigne anticipated last March.
From the dunes of the Peruvian desert, the rally route will continue through Bolivia and will conclude in Córdoba, Argentina, in an edition that also celebrates 10 years of competition in Latin America.
