Noah Clowney continues his roll, goes for 27 and 14 in Long Island Nets win over Maine Red Claws

Noah Clowney was called up to Brooklyn at the end of December and scored 14 points against the Milwaukee Bucks, yes, in THAT game. At the time, Clowney told reporters his success had helped him know “I can compete at this level.”

Since then, he ’s been on a roll in the G League. In the four games since the Milwaukee game on December 27. the 6’10” PF/C has averaged 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 62/42/88 shooting splits.

On Sunday afternoon, Clowney had his best statistical outing as a pro helping Long Island defeat the Maine Celtics, 115-110. The 21st pick in the 2023 Draft, Clowney scored 27 points, grabbed 14 rebounds (11 offensive) handed out four assists and blocked four shots. He’s among the G League leaders in blocks averaging nearly two a game:

Jalen Wilson also had a big game, recording his first double-double of the regular season with 24 points and 11 rebounds in addition to one assist, one steal and two blocks in 34 minutes. (Clowney is among the G League leaders in blocks, averaging nearly two a game.) Long Island’s reliable point guard, Kennedy Chandler added 22 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and three steals in 38 minutes.

Long Island’s defense made an impact in the first quarter, outrebounding Maine 18-13. The Celtics snuck past the Nets and closed the period ahead by one, 28-27. Long Island worked hard to take the lead in the second quarter, outscoring Maine 39-28 on 60.9% shooting from the field and 58.3% shooting from behind the arc. The Nets took the lead and closed the period ahead by 10, 66-56.

The Nets kept their foot on the gas in the third period as they outscored the Celtics 28-22 and outrebounded Maine 15-8 in the period. Long Island went into the final quarter of play ahead by 16, 94-78. Despite scoring 32 points in the fourth quarter, Maine could not take the lead.

Maine was led by Boston two-way guard JD Davison with 23 points, four rebounds, nine assists, three steals and four blocks in 33 minutes. While on assignment with Maine, Celtics forward Jordan Walsh posted 22 points, seven rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block in 32 minutes.

Long Island will face Maine again at Nassau Coliseum on Wednesday, January 10, at 7:00 p.m. ET.
