Ymer Storms Into Round 2
Last year’s finalist Mikael Ymer made a terrific start in the tournament, breezing past Argentina’s Federico Coria in just 73 minutes in the opening round on Monday.
Ymer saved all three of the break points that he faced and converted all three that he held during the contest to beat Coria 6-2, 6-3.
The 23-year-old had made it to his maiden ATP final in Winston-Salem last year, falling to Ilya Ivashka in the final.
The Swede has been in brilliant form this August. He made it to the semifinals in Washington by beating two top 50 and two top 60 players. He eventually went down to Nick Kyrgios in the semis but that run helped him jump 28 places in the rankings, lifting him back into the top 100.
Currently ranked No. 74, Ymer featured in the Vancouver Challenger last week, going down in the quarterfinals.
Monday’s win improved Ymer to 13-11 in 2022. He had also displayed good form in the first quarter, reaching the semifinals in Montpellier and the quarterfinals in Adelaide-1.

Huesler Comes Through Qualifiers
Facing Ymer will be World No. 102 Marc-Andrea Huesler, who won his qualifying rounds to reach the main draw and then received a first-round bye.
The Swiss had won his first qualifying round against Matthew Ebden, beating the Aussie 6-4, 6-3 in just 65 minutes.
Huesler also dominated the second qualifying round against Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki. He converted 4 of 8 break points while getting broken just once to dispatch the World no. 368, 6-2, 6-4.
The Swiss, who is making his debut in Winston Salem this year, has won two Challenger titles this year, both on clay.
He has an overall record of 1-4 at the tour level this year, and has mostly found success only in clay court tournaments at the lower level. Having got off to a god start in the qualifying rounds, can he bring that form into the main draw?
Ymer v Huesler Prediction and Tip
Ymer made the finals on debut last year, and is also in great form at the moment. Expect him to ease past Huesler to reach the Round of 16.
