Federico Coria v Daniel Galan Head to Head
They played three times before and Galan leads 2-1. The most recent one was at the Parma Challenger a month ago. Galan won 6-2 6-1.

Coria’s Good Showing in Bastad
Federico Coria is an interesting player who almost exclusively plays on clay. He can play on other surfaces but wins are pretty rare for him outside of clay. It’s been an okay year for him with a 24-21 score and 22-17 of that was on clay.
The Argentine moves well but has no deadly weapons to his disposal. He just does most of it pretty well and builds points with his patience and smart play. He won’t blow you away on the court but Coria will get the job done.
Last week in Bastad he looked rather solid winning one match and then giving Rublev some trouble in the 2nd round. Now he turns his attention to Hamburg against a player who smashed him just on a month ago. Galan generally gave him trouble in the post with his forehand and that’s something he needs to find a way to overcome.
Coria is quite streaky so you never quite know what you have with him. The Bastad outing seemed to indicate he’s starting to play a bit better.

Galan’s Odd Year
Daniel Galan is 34-19 on the year and that’s a very good year for him but the problem is that he played very poorly in the biggest of events. Compared to last year when he was very good on the ATP Tour, this year he wasn’t. That is the reason why he dropped out of the top 100 and desperately trying to get back.
Most of the wins this year came on the challenger tour so be aware of that when you look at the stats and such. Yes, he had a good year but that’s mostly due to the level of competition he faced on the challenger Tour. Most of those wins came on clay (28-14) but he can play well on other surfaces as well.
Galan has a good serve, a strong forehand and very precise shots albeit not the greatest mover. If you can move him around a bit you will create chances.
He failed to reach the Bastad main draw through qualifiers but got it done in Hamburg. The German clay should suit his game a bit more albeit he is a streaky player as well.
Coria v Galan Prediction and Tip
So both of these players are quite streaky and that’s a bit of a problem because I can’t really predict who will be better. Both can win and both have beaten the other in the past but I do think that Galan has the better matchup overall.
So I’ll back him to win in three sets because he actually played two matches already and he knows the conditions a bit better. The H2H favours him slightly with a 2-1 lead so that’s another reason to back him.
