One of the most electrifying fixtures at IEM Cologne has just wrapped up, with FaZe Clan pulling out one of the most dizzying reverse sweeps against Team Liquid that we’ve seen in years. It looked awry for FaZe Clan on Mirage, with Team Liquid securing a massive 11 – 1 lead, but as the match pushed on, FaZe Clan exploded.
Just like that, the team was able to pull off a full reverse sweep, with Team Liquid managing to secure just one more round before the game entered Overtime at 12 – 12. FaZe Clan refused to relent, netting a further four rounds to win the map and push Team Liquid out of IEM Cologne.
Stunning Performance
FaZe Clan went on one hell of a run to secure qualification into the playoffs. From the upper bracket, FaZe Clan beat Team Liquid once but was sent packing into the lower run by Vitality, who would later qualify for the playoffs.
In the lower bracket, FaZe Clan forcefully ejected Team Falcons – currently the number-one organisation at the Esports World Cup – before dispatching Team Liquid once again.
The numbers ended up looking sharp for FaZe Clan, but most particularly for ropz, who picked up the accolades for the best overall rating, the most kills, and the most damage.
It was tough watching FaZe Clan get rinsed so many times in quick succession, but the team remained resilient and pulled off a beautiful reverse sweep worthy of a tournament champion.
Now, FaZe Clan enters the playoffs along with MOUZ, G2, NAVI, Vitality, and SAW. There’s still the matter of the $1 million prize pool on the line, and the winner of this event will net $400,000 of that plus qualification to IEM Katowice 2025 and the BLAST Premier World Final.
FaZe has been running a little cold lately, having secured IEM Chengdu in April but nothing else going back to November 2023. Could this be another IEM win for the squad?
