Peruvian athletes continue to shine in the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, and this time the national delegation secured two gold medals. Caterina Romero and Stefano Peschiera won the gold medal in the Women's Sunfish and ILCA 7 categories, respectively, in the discipline of sailing. Despite there still being a competition on the weekend, the score achieved by both is unbeatable for their rivals.

On Thursday, November 2, Caterina demonstrated dominance, winning 9 out of 10 sunfish races. With this score, even if she finishes last on Saturday (Medal Race competition), she will still be in first place. It is worth noting that she has been participating in Santiago 2023 since October 28 in the Sunfish Women's Regional Boat category.

As for Stefano Peschiera, he also showed consistency and was the best in the ILCA 7 category. The athlete was one of the top contenders and had the opportunity to finish first in all eight races he competed in, securing the first place.

How much money do medal-winning athletes receive?

The representatives of the Team Peru who win a medal in the competition will receive, in addition to sporting glory, a significant cash prize from IPD. The amount will depend on the color of the medal each Peruvian achieves in Santiago 2023.

"We are committed to offering a reward for the medals won, as has been done in the past. Therefore, we have planned to award 80,000 soles for each gold medal, 60,000 for silver, and 30,000 for bronze," announced Guido Flores, the current president of the organization governing national sports, as a preview.
