In a shared list by the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD), it was known that Peruvian athletes Gladys Tejeda and Christian Pacheco will not attend the 2023 Athletics World Championships to be held in Budapest.

The decision was based on the goal of both athletes to win the gold medal again in the upcoming 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

EVENT DEVELOPMENT

The absence of Tejeda and Pacheco is due to the clash of dates and the limited preparation they would have for the event. The Athletics World Championships will take place between August 19 and 27, while the Pan American Games will be held from October 20 to November 5 of this year.

The preparation time for the athletes is very short, so they had to prioritize the Santiago Games in search of a new golden medal for Peru, just like in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
