After three days of competition, the Peruvian delegation successfully concluded their participation in the Lima 2022 Para Athletics Open, winning 16 medals (7 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze). This reaffirms our country's professional greatness and growth as an organizer of international events, hosting the most important para-sport event of the year at the country's only Athletics Stadium, located at the Legado VIDENA headquarters.
Kenny Pacheco's gold medal in the discus throw (T65 men), Rosbil Guillén's silver medal in the 1500 meters, and Carlos Sangama's silver medal were the latest achievements added by the Peruvian delegation in the final stages of the international competition.
"I am excited to see how after Lima 2019, there are sports facilities where we can train and compete. We are ready to host more events, welcoming para-athletes from Europe and Asia. In my case, this time, I managed to set a new national record in my specialties, and now I am aiming to qualify for Santiago 2023. I feel inside my next Parapan American Games," said Rosbil Guillén after winning two medals (gold and bronze) in the 1500 meters.
Kenny Pacheco highlighted the organization of the Lima 2022 Para Athletics Open, organized by the National Paralympic Association of Peru (ANPPERÚ), presided over by Luisa Villar, in coordination with Legado and the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD).
"I have participated in two international events in a few months and have maintained the gold medals for the country. Now I just have to keep training at the Legado venues to qualify for Santiago 2023. Peruvian para-sports are achieving good international results," added Kenny Pacheco after winning the gold medal with a throw of 32 meters and 32 centimeters in the discus throw.
RECORD NATIONAL AND AMERICA
Another special performance recorded at the Lima 2022 Para Athletics Open was the national and Americas record achieved by Carlos Felipa in the shot put event T63 class, with 10 meters and 97 centimeters.
"I am extremely happy to have surpassed a record that has been in place since 2019, and to have done it here, in my country, is priceless. I thank Legado for providing me with the facilities to always train at the Athletics Stadium. We should have more venues like this throughout the country. Undoubtedly, the organization of these types of events will help us grow as professionals," concluded Carlos Felipa.
Samuel Ormeño Villa, Diego Marín Ferrer, and Jesús Castillo Pacheco (T64) also stood out in their respective events. Ander Guevara Gálvez joined them in the 400 meters.
Paralympian Jerusa Geber dos Santos shone at the Legado Athletics Stadium and confirmed the great moment she is experiencing by winning the gold medal in the 100 meters. She arrived in the Peruvian capital as one of the top figures after winning the bronze medal at Tokyo 2020.
