Proud of our nation!

Athlete Kimberly García received the Lima Medal from the Mayor of Lima, Architect Miguel Romero Sotelo, as recognition for her brilliant performance in the 2022 Oregon World Athletics Championship in the United States, where she won two gold medals for Peru.

The recognition ceremony took place at the Municipal Palace, and was attended by councilors of the metropolitan municipality, as well as the athlete's family members.

During the event, the efforts of the golden athlete were highlighted, as they generate hope in these hard times for the country. The mayor expressed: "That hope is something we will never lose with people like you, who work so hard with discipline, humility, and perseverance. With great sacrifice, you achieve these awards for our country," he stated.

The athlete thanked the mayor for the invitation and affirmed that she will continue to strive to bring honor to Peru. She also gave a message to young people who, like her, strive to achieve goals in different sports disciplines: "If you have set your sights on becoming champions, I would say to keep going on that path, to follow your dreams. It is important that one fulfills their dreams despite, at times, the lack of visibility," she said.

LIMA MEDAL

The Lima Medal is an honor awarded by the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima to distinguished individuals whose exemplary and significant work contributes to the development of the city.

Kimberly García achieved, for the first time in history, that Peru ranked in the top 10 of a World Athletics Championship, by winning two gold medals in race walking in the 20 and 35 kilometers categories. She is the only Latin American to win two gold medals in the same athletics world championship.
