Kimberly, ultimate champion
In just one week, Kimi has managed to write a golden story for national sports. Two world titles in the march in Eugene (Oregon) elevate her to the highest point in our history. The same athlete who, in 2016, saw how lack of support almost condemned her to retirement and who in 2021 experienced the frustration of not winning a medal in Tokyo, today raises her arms with the national flag as the ultimate symbol. She had already won bronze at the World March Championship, but she always seeks a new celebration.
She didn't like to run when she was little. She knew that to reach glory, she would do it by walking, marching. And she succeeded at the age of 28. Behind her, there are many more talents waiting for a state policy with greater support for athletes.
Alexandra keeps growing
Two Sports Laurels bear her name. From that little girl who watched karate practice at the Nacional stadium to becoming one of our most successful high-performance athletes who never loses sight of her academy in the district of San Martín de Porres.
Alexandra Grande has managed to stay in the elite of her category (8th in the -61kg kumite ranking) over time. She has represented Peru since 2004 and has competed in the adult category since 2010. Her record includes Pan American golds and the joy of being the first - and only - Olympic karateka, with a diploma included.
Mesinas and the sea
They call him 'The Machine' on the world's beaches, and the mancoreño has shown that he was 'manufactured' to make history. Lucca Mesinas gave us a start to 2022 enjoying Peruvian surfing at its best. Last year, he became the first Hispanic American to qualify for the Championship Tour, and in 2022, he painted waves like Pipeline and Bell Beach with the red and white of Peru.
So, in January, he started that journey by facing none other than the legendary Kelly Slater in the Hawaiian tubes. His talent led him to achieve a historic fifth place. Unfortunately, he couldn't stay in the circuit, but him, Miguel Tudela, Daniella Rosas, Sol Aguirre, Alonso Correa, among others, are already surfing new waves to reach the top of the discipline.
