Luis Avilés advanced smoothly to the final of the 400 meters flat in the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023 and tomorrow he will seek to climb onto the podium in this continental event.
The Mexican athlete competed in heat 2 of the semifinal and finished in second place with a time of 45.84 seconds, which is the third best time of this stage. The first place went to Brazilian Lucas Conceicao with 45.76 seconds and the second place to Brazilian Lucas Carvalho with 46.79 seconds.
"It was a very strategic competition, it was not necessary to make too much effort since the top three advance to the final. Now we have to think about the gold, why not, let speed return to the top of the podium, and I also believe that I can run 44 seconds in the final and achieve the mark for the Olympics," Avilés mentioned.

At the Central American Games San Salvador 2023, Luis was disqualified in the semifinal for stepping on the lane line, and now in the Pan American Games he focused on not making the same mistake.
"In fact, I was aware throughout the race where I was thinking to get a little further away, because in the end, that's what these events are for, we learn the hard way at the Central American Games and I came here to apply the good things at the Pan American Games," the athlete mentioned.
Luis Avilés Ferreiro was the champion at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires 2018 and is one of the promises of Mexican athletics.
