The Peruvian Athletics Federation announced on Wednesday that they have resolved the issue of mistreatment by their treasurer Marita Letts against coach and long distance runner José Luis Chauca, who was giving an interview to a specialized media outlet during the Trail World Championships in Argentina.
In a statement, they clarified that both of them met last Monday after the Federation President, Gustavo Cárdenas Brou, had separate meetings with each of them.
"After a brief conversation, both expressed that they have resolved the issue. Ms. Marita personally apologized and her apologies were accepted by coach Mr. José Luis Chauca," the statement published on their Facebook page says.
Apologies
They added that Letts Colmenares publicly asked for apologies and stated that it was never her intention to "disrespect, humiliate, make him uncomfortable, or make him feel bad". She also commented that it was not the most appropriate way to address the coach and extended her apologies to anyone who might have been offended.
"Ms. Marita Letts Colmenares extends her apologies to anyone whose sensibilities may have been offended by the tone of voice and terms in which she addressed the coach."
Mistreatment
Athletics coach and long distance runner José Luis Chauca Ascues was giving an interview to a reporter from Radio Running about the performance of a group of long distance runners who represented Peru at the Trail World Championships in Argentina, when suddenly, some shouting interrupted the interview.
"José Luis, come here! Come here, damn it... José Luis! Hey, if I call you, you come. Go get Thalia's backpack," shouted María Letts Colmenares, who demanded the attention of the runner, causing him to quickly leave the interview.
The incident generated rejection from various institutions such as the Office of the Ombudsman, who requested that the officer be penalized.
