Peru's Gladys Tejeda Wins Gold in Bolivarian Games

Gladys Tejeda once again put Peru at the top by winning the gold medal in the Half Marathon at the 2017 Bolivarian Games, held in Santa Marta, Colombia. The national athlete achieved a time of 1:14:55 and earned the 153rd medal for the national delegation, which is divided into 32 gold, 53 silver, and 68 bronze medals. Clara Canchanya also participated in this event.

As previously mentioned, prior to the start of the 2017 Bolivarian Games, Gladys Tejeda's participation was in doubt, as she decided not to attend the World Athletics Championships in London due to health reasons. However, she did run and win the Mexico Marathon. As a result, the federation decided not to include her in the Bolivarian Games along with other outstanding athletes such as Inés Melchor, Andy Martínez, the McFarlane brothers, Kimberly García, and Luis Ostos.

Peru is currently ranked fifth in the Medal Table of the 2017 Bolivarian Games with 153 medals. Colombia leads the table with 453, followed by Venezuela with 292, Ecuador in third place with 186, and Chile with 153 medals. It is worth mentioning that after the women's Half Marathon, it will be the men's turn, with two national contenders: Nelson Ito Curo and Ulises Ambrocio.
