The Mexico City Marathon
The Mexico City Marathon is considered one of the best internationally, as it ranks ninth among the top ten in the world, according to the International Association of Athletics Federations.
Most cities have their own marathon, but some stand out more than others due to specific characteristics that make them the best.
RECOMMENDATION: Change in the route of the Mexico City Marathon
The Mexico City Marathon will celebrate its 35th edition, and in 2014 it officially received the gold certification from The Council for Responsible Sport. This certification helped it improve its position in 2015, becoming one of the top ten in the world.
But, what criteria are considered for a marathon to be among the best?
- Holding the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) certification.
- Obtaining the Council for Responsible Sport certification, as being a Green Marathon and an event that is responsible, sustainable, and environmentally friendly.
- The number of runners who manage to finish the 42 kilometers is essential to increase the level of the race.
- The number of editions that have taken place.
RECOMMENDATION: Presentation of the shirt and medal for the Mexico City Half Marathon
Javier Carvallo, director of the Mexico City Marathon, is convinced that it is possible to obtain a better position by increasing the culture of sports among Mexicans and enriching the good habit of running. He highlights that it is an experience that every human being should do at least once in their life.
"We have seen incredible growth in recent years, not in terms of registration numbers, but in the number of runners who manage to finish those 42 kilometers. This helps us grow and be considered a quality marathon," he commented in an interview for La Afición.
During this edition, more than 42,000 runners will be participating, ready to conquer the finish line.
