A new achievement for Inés Melchor. The Peruvian long-distance runner was crowned as the best South American in the World Athletics Marathon held in London, England on Sunday. Melchor finished in 26th place after covering 42 kilometers and 195 meters in 2 hours, 35 minutes, and 34 seconds.
Meanwhile, the other Peruvian representative, Wilma Arizapana, also had a remarkable participation and finished in 49th place with a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 51 seconds.
The champion. Rose Chelimo won the World Athletics Marathon by covering the 42 kilometers in 2 hours, 27 minutes, and 11 seconds. The Bahraini runner beat Kenyan Edna Kiplagat, who had won the world championship in 2011 and 2013, by seven seconds. Finally, American Amy Cragg won the bronze medal.
