Training the Core: Essential for Runners
Training the core - which includes the abdominals, hips, and lower back - is essential if you practice running or any other sport. Being a central axis, strengthening this part of the body will help you gain more stability, increase speed, improve posture, increase strength, and prevent injuries.
In this video, trainer Pablo Ulloa recommends 5 core exercises that will help you become a more efficient runner. The plank, along with its variations, is one of the key exercises to train this area. In this routine, in addition to the usual plank, you will learn 4 other variants: the bridge and superman.
It is recommended to perform 3 to 5 sets of each exercise for a duration of 30 to 60 seconds each, taking 15 to 30 seconds of rest, according to your physical condition. Ideally, you should do this routine at least 2 times a week to gradually see results.
Include these core strengthening exercises in your training plan and improve your performance in running.
