The Liga Mx has positioned itself as one of the highest spenders in player transfers worldwide. According to the report from FIFA TMS (Transfer Matching System), Mexican football was the eleventh highest spender in player acquisitions throughout 2016, with a total of 77.9 million dollars.

However, the spending by the Liga Mx last year fell far short of that of the English Premier League, which was the federation that made the most investment with 1,372.8 million dollars, followed by Germany with 576.4 million, Spain with 508.7, Italy with 508.5, and China, which appears in the Top 5 with 451.3 million dollars.

Although from the American continent, Mexico is the second country with the highest investment in football, surpassed only by Brazil, which invested 85.3 million dollars in 2016. According to this organization, the investment of the Liga Mx was just 2.3% higher than what was spent in 2015.

Of the federations that are in the Top 10, the ones that spent the most in comparison to 2015 were Russia, which invested 114.1 million dollars, 383% more than two years ago; followed by China, which increased by 168.2%, and Brazil, which spent 140.2% more.

In addition, the FIFA report also includes the net spending of each federation in transfers, that is, without taxes or other types of levies. In this ranking, Mexican football ranks fourth by having spent 52 million clean dollars, only behind Germany (1,060 mdd), China (440.9 mdd), and Germany (217.7 mdd).

The FIFA TMS document also mentions Mexican football, which has multiplied its spending in the last five years and is the federation that invests the most in the Concacaf area. In 2011, they invested 10.6 million dollars, while this year they reached 77.9 million, almost double the total spent by the federations of the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica combined.
