This Sunday, December 18th, Sporting Cristal and Melgar will play the second leg of the 2016 Descentralizado final at the National Stadium, which will be completely full as all tickets have been sold. The match will take place at 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcasted by RPP Noticias on its radio station (89.7 FM - Lima).
After the result of the first leg match in Arequipa (1-1 draw with goals from Bernardo Cuesta for Melgar and Diego Ifrán for Sporting Cristal), the team led by Mariano Soso only needs a goalless draw to become champions. If the match ends in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, the definition will be through penalties. The victory of either institution will automatically grant them the title.
Past finals. Both teams were also the protagonists of the great final of the 2015 Descentralizado. On that occasion, the first leg was played in Lima (2-2) and the definition was in Arequipa (3-2 in favor of Melgar). The overall score was 5-4 and 'El Dominó' became champion in its centenary.
This is not the first time that Sporting Cristal has defined national tournaments at the National Stadium. In its history, the team has played ten finals in that venue, of which it has won five, drawn two, and lost three (explained in detail in the image gallery).
