Judges of Bayern Munich will wear a jersey made 100% from plastic waste recovered from the sea
The players of Bayern Munich will play on Saturday wearing a jersey made 100% from plastic waste recovered from the sea, announced the sports brand of the champions of Germany on Friday.
Bayer, leader of the championship, receives Hoffenheim on Saturday, third. The traditional red jersey of the Adidas clothing will be made this time from recycling waste taken from the coasts near the Maldives islands, in the Indian Ocean.
The same operation is planned at Real Madrid for an upcoming home game, the sports brand said.
"I was born in Spain by the sea," said Bayern midfielder Xabi Alonso on the occasion of the presentation of this jersey, "and that's why I am particularly happy to wear a jersey made 100% from ocean waste. It is a nice opportunity to draw attention to the protection of seas and oceans."
Ocean pollution from plastic bags has become a major environmental problem, causing the death of turtles, dolphins, and seals that get trapped in them or eat them.
