Juan Martín Del Potro did not show his best level and struggled to defeat Japanese Taro Daniel in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. The Argentine won 6-7, 6-1 against the 117th ranked ATP player.

The "Tower of Tandil" had to work harder than expected after a weak start. The first set was decided in a tie break where the Argentine showed doubts.

However, "Delpo" started fresh in the second set, showed his best performance, and defeated the Japanese player 6-1.

The comeback continued in the last set. Del Potro took advantage of the break opportunities and showed solidity on the court. That was enough for him to finish the match with an ace, reach the quarterfinals, and keep the chances of winning another medal for the Argentine delegation.
