Peruvian athletes begin to stand out in the Chilean capital. Experienced taekwondo athlete Hugo del Castillo won the first medal for 'Team Peru' on Saturday, in the poomsae category, at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
This specialty combines movements that represent attacks and defenses executed in a specific order or line of movements. Hugo del Castillo reached the semifinals and was able to win the bronze medal.
OPENS MEDAL TABLE
The 26-year-old national athlete prevailed in the quarterfinals against Ecuadorian Mario Troya, but in the semifinals, despite his effort and dedication, he was outscored (7.770) by Mexican athlete William Arroyo (7.850).
As a reminder, in the edition of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, Del Castillo Palomino was also responsible for opening the medal table for the Peruvian team by winning the silver medal in the same specialty.
