After the tough defeat in Santiago at the hands of Chile (2-0), the Peruvian National Team not only remained relegated in the penultimate position of the 2026 Qualifiers with one point - only above Bolivia, who has zero - but also the immediate future looks quite dark if we take into account that there are three matches remaining in 2023: Argentina (H), Bolivia (A) and Venezuela (H). In that sense, it is necessary to reflect on how the 'Blanquirroja' is playing under the command of Juan Reynoso and the reasons for the poor results that have been achieved up to today.
The 'Ajedrecista' made his debut with the Peru jersey in August of last year, losing 1-0 against Mexico. That defeat did not generate questions, as it was the beginning of a new process and had the benefit of the doubt. This improved with the victories over El Salvador (4-1), Paraguay (1-0) and Bolivia (1-0), closing a 2022 with three wins and one loss, results that allowed us to see the main foundations of Reynoso's idea: to keep a clean sheet in our own goal and from there generate danger in the opponent's field.
