Peru's national team suffers a painful defeat against Chile

After the painful 2-0 defeat of the Peruvian national team against Chile in Matchday 3 of the Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, Juan Reynoso, one of the main culprits of the national setback, took responsibility for the lineup that took the field and didn't work.

Omar Ruiz de Somocurcio, a sports journalist from Panamericana, spoke about the national coach and stated that it was the worst game in his coaching history.

"Yesterday was a terrible game, not only according to me but also according to the international press, and Juan Reynoso knows it. I think it has been Peru's worst game in recent years and maybe Reynoso's worst game as a coach," he expressed.

ERASING EVERYTHING ACHIEVED BY GARECA

On the other hand, Omar Ruiz de Somocurcio highlighted the presence of Ricardo Gareca as the head of the Peruvian national team since he had found a style of play that was reflected in the team's matches. However, with Juan Reynoso's arrival, all of that was erased.

"Gareca had found a path, Peru played and had somewhat recovered the DNA of Peruvian football (...) Unfortunately, Juan Reynoso erased everything (achieved by Gareca) and has been going from bad to worse, no evolution," he pointed out.

PERUVIAN FOOTBALL WITHOUT IDENTITY

In a complicated process where everyone wants to be present at the World Cup, Ruiz de Somocurcio asserted that the coach of the Peruvian national team is taking away the identity of national football.

"He is taking away the identity of Peruvian football, not only are we losing games terribly played," he stated.

It is worth recalling that Peru will play against the reigning world champion of Qatar 2022, Argentina, on Tuesday, October 17th at 9:00 p.m. for Matchday 4 of the Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
