Surprise in the sports world!
As it was being discussed, the 2030 World Cup was going to have its opening matches in Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, and Chile. But the news that has impacted the Chileans is the decision made by FIFA last Wednesday, October 4, where they ruled out the southern country to have its opening match on its land.
YOU CAN SEE: Opening matches of the 2030 World Cup will be played in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay
Through the official social networks of Alejandro Domínguez, president of Conmebol, shared the statement ruling out Chile. "We believed in something big. The Centenary World Cup 2030 starts where it all began. Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will host the opening matches of the Centenary World Cup!", he wrote.
After its publication, during a press conference, Domínguez explained that Chile is out by decision of the organization based in Switzerland, which Conmebol had to comply with.
"A 100-year World Cup should not forget or fail to live up to the circumstances, and FIFA understood it that way. Three continents will unite to celebrate the most beautiful sport in the world, three countries are joining forces and we are tremendously happy. I feel like dancing, there are reasons to celebrate and thank those who made this proposal possible. It will all start at the Centenario Stadium and, in addition to Uruguay, there will be two other opening matches in Argentina and Paraguay", he declared.
Domínguez refers to Chile's absence as a host on the 2023 World Cup list
When asked about Chile's withdrawal, Domínguez responded decisively. "Originally, we only talked about two countries which were Uruguay and Argentina, then the World Cup expanded to 48 teams and Paraguay joined, and later Chile. This time they are not there, but that doesn't mean we won't work for Chile to be included or to give them something of this magnitude. FIFA makes the decision, not us", stated the authority of Conmebol.
Which will be the main venue of the 2030 World Cup?
It has been confirmed that the 2030 World Cup will have Spain, Portugal, and Morocco as its main venues. This news has excited the countries, who have assured that they will work hard to live up to this great sporting event.
