This Friday, June 2, the Judge No. 2 of Lomas de Zamora sentenced Sebastian Villa, one of Boca Juniors' most disruptive players, to two years and one month of conditional imprisonment, after being found guilty of gender violence against his former partner Daniela Cortés. According to Argentine media, the 'cafetero' will no longer play with the 'Xeneize' shirt by order of the club itself.
"Sentenced Villa Cano to two years and one month of conditional imprisonment for the crime of coercive threats with minor injuries in the context of gender violence," was part of the ruling that was read in the presence of the Boca Juniors player, lawyer, and family.
Although the sentence will not be effective due to being less than three years, which in Argentine justice leaves the prison sentence suspended, Villa will have to comply with rules of conduct: prohibited consumption of drugs and alcohol and must undergo psychosocial treatment.
Cortes filed the complaint against Villa on April 27, 2020, while still in a relationship with the player. The woman claimed to have been beaten and described her partner as"an abuser, both physically and psychologically." Before, she posted photos showing her face with injuries that she said were caused by the footballer.
Sebastian Villa was also accused by another woman in May 2022 for a second episode of gender violence, allegedly occurring in June 2021, for sexual abuse with carnal access, aggravated by injuries.
Now we have to wait for the reaction of Boca Juniors, whose vice-president, Juan Roman Riquelme, said days ago that it was"a very sensitive issue" and that, when the verdict was known, the club would take"the necessary measures, as appropriate".
With the 'Xeneize' squad, Villa - who left the Colombian Deportes Tolima - won two Argentine Supercups, one Super League, two League Cups, one Cup, and the 2022 First Division Championship.
