To achieve his third victory of the season, Jorge Lorenzo suffered more than necessary in the last laps, despite the fact that Valentino Rossi, his main rival, retired in the ninth lap of the Italian Grand Prix.
And it is that the Spanish Yamaha rider already thought himself champion when his compatriot Marc Márquez accelerated and closed the gap between him and the first place of the race. In the last lap, the Honda rider overtook Lorenzo and the two engaged in a tough fight until the last corner.
In the straight to the checkered flag, Lorenzo entered behind his rival, but managed to make the YZR-M1 accelerate and surpass the RC213V of Márquez, taking a lead of just 0.019 seconds. With this, the Mallorcan rider remains at the top of the championship with 115 points, ahead of Márquez and his 105 units. The next race is on June 5th in Catalunya.
