WWE Note

The importance of the last Raw before a WWE event lies in the climatization of its stories. The series reserves its main event segment for its most prominent rivalry. But in the pre Extreme Rules 2016, the company bet on the brand's women's division.

The rivalry between the holder of the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Roman Reigns, and the challenger Aj Styles is the central axis of the McMahon's company. The reasons are obvious: It involves the maximum title of the brand, the one they want to be the face and the fight that generates the most empathy in the viewers.

The story of respect-hate between the Reigns-Styles duo was relegated to the pre-main segment of the Raw prior to WWE Extreme Rules 2016. Despite this, the company made up for the decision by highlighting it on YouTube as the most valued moment of the May 16th program.

This decision motivates reflection: Was it worth sacrificing the main segment in favor of the rivalry between the WWE Women's Championship, Charlotte, and her challenger, the natural heir of the Hart dynasty, Natalya?

According to WWE on YouTube, no. The brand selected the moment when Ric Flair is put in his place by Stephanie McMahon as the ninth most impactful moment of Raw, and Charlotte's submission by Natalya's Sharpshooter as the fourth.

WWE is working to give greater notoriety to the women's division. They want to give it strength and credibility, emulating what UFC has achieved thanks to the popularity of the former bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey. But they still have deficiencies in scriptwriting.

Charlotte continues to struggle to stand out as a champion because of her father's presence. And in fact, it is becoming unthinkable for the Californian to have notoriety in WWE if it were not for being the daughter of the 16-time world champion.

At WWE Extreme Rules 2016, she will have her first real opportunity to prove her worth, the same worth she already demonstrated during her time in NXT by defeating her current rival, Natalya.

Meanwhile, the only woman who survived the dungeons of Calgary continues to be disrespected. She deserves more than being the instructor of the new generation - that's her role in WWE, a guide for the younger wrestlers. And it is even an insult to consider her a mere sparring partner, denying her lineage and ability.

In the top 10 of YouTube, WWE also decides to ignore an important point in the story of Charlotte and Natalya: the contract clause that establishes that if Ric Flair appears during the match, his daughter would automatically lose her title.

ANOTHER THING

It is common to see on YouTube events that WWE wants to highlight instead of moments that have special interest. An example of this is that the time machine of The New Day is highlighted, but not the attack of The Vaudevillains. Or the defeat of the Golden Truth and not the follow-up of a story that has been in the works for five months.

Finally, with Dean Ambrose, WWE continues to demonstrate its feeling of denied love. Second place in the top 10 of YouTube is undeserved. He deserved more, because the company trusts him enough to give him a second chance - after the failure at WrestleMania with Brock Lesnar - to be an extreme wrestler with a fighting style designed around his personality.

Ambrose's success is a matter of time. Because while WWE insists on imposing Roman Reigns as a star, the "lunatic fringe" is ascending organically. He needs the Asylum Match to redeem himself and consolidate, and he has Chris Jericho as the perfect ally to achieve it.
