Marcelo Bielsa has reached an agreement with the Uruguayan national team to be their new coach throughout the North America 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, with the possibility of extending the contract if La Celeste qualifies for the international tournament. This news has left Peru and Brazil as the only teams with a coach of the same nationality on the bench.
As we know, the current coach of the Peruvian national team is Juan Máximo Reynoso, who took over after Ricardo Gareca's departure. Since his arrival, the 'Cabezón' has managed six matches with two losses, one draw, and three victories, although there is some concern among fans regarding the qualifying process.
On the other hand, Tite resigned from his position as the coach of Brazil after being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The current coach of Brazil is Ramon Menezes, who has only played one friendly match so far, which ended in a 2-1 defeat against Morocco in March.
Thus, Peru and Brazil are the only two teams in the CONMEBOL region with a coach from their own country. Alongside Ecuador, they are the squads that do not have an Argentine coach on the bench. All the other teams have an Argentine strategist for the Qualifiers.
