By Renzo Manyari, President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee
The names of Shoely Mego and Kimberly García frequently appear in the media. They are associated with sporting success and attract the spotlight of public interest from their respective disciplines.
Shoely Mego made her mark as champion in the 55 kilogram body weight category at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Bariloche, Argentina. Her efforts were rewarded with gold medals in the Snatch, Clean and Jerk, and Overall categories.
Last December, Shoely confidently joined the select group of international elite athletes. She made her name at the Absolute Weightlifting World Championships in Bogotá, Colombia, winning bronze in the Clean and Jerk.
Her performance in Bariloche has confirmed that her medal in Bogotá was not an isolated incident but part of a process aimed at a greater goal: the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
As President of the Peruvian Weightlifting Federation, I am familiar with Shoely's dedication in training, her tenacity to overcome obstacles, and her composure in decisive moments. Shoely is a source of pride for Peruvian sports.
Kimberly García
The athlete from Huancayo, who achieved two world titles in racewalking in 2022, has just surpassed herself. She won the 35-kilometer race in Dudinská, Slovakia, and simultaneously set a new world record for the distance.
Reaching the top of a sport can sometimes be a paralyzing goal, but Kimberly yearns for more and shows that she is made to achieve other goals of greater significance. Indeed, her future is open to any prediction.
Kimberly knows that she can count on the Peruvian Olympic Committee for any type of support she may need for her participation in the various racewalking events on the calendar. Also, to complement any action aimed at achieving her goals.
Kimberly has raised the level of local racewalking and directed the attention of the world's television cameras towards our country. She is an international figure and has placed Peru's name in a privileged position. That is her enormous contribution to the development of national sports.
Shoely and Kimberly, the country celebrates your victories and wishes you more success!
