In March 1980, Alianza Lima debuted its lighting in the Alejandro Villanueva stadium, so they decided to organize an international quadrangular tournament that was played at night to test these new lights.
And without a doubt, the most remembered match of this event is the game against the Club Strikers from Fort Lauderdale, United States, a match attended by 19,389 spectators and played on March 21 of that year.
It turns out that the American team had two internationally recognized figures. The first one was Teófilo Cubillas, a former Alianza player who was a rival of the "íntimos" that night. And the second one was none other than Gerd 'Torpedo' Müller, a champion with Bayern Munich and a World Cup champion with Germany in 1974.
However, the blanquiazul team held their ground and stood up to the North American team, ending the match in a 1-1 draw. As expected, 'Torpedo' Müller left his mark at Matute by scoring the goal for the Strikers, while Fredy Ravello scored the equalizer for Alianza from the penalty spot.
